Orchids are the largest of all flowering plant families which contain thousands of species and hybrids and grow worldwide. There will be many exhibits showcasing different and unusual species of orchids at the show for viewing from vendors located throughout the US. Also, we will have lots of beautiful and different varieties of orchids for sale at the show. The Alabama Orchid Society welcomes all visitors and wishes to extend an invitation to come visit with them at their monthly meetings. 5th Annual Antiques at The Gardens: Heirlooms in Bloom Birmingham Botanical Gardens

The fifth annual Antiques at The Gardens commences with the Sterne Agee First Look party on Thursday, September 30. Celebrated Friday, October 1 through Sunday, October 3, Antiques at The Gardens features dozens of premier dealers from across the United States. The Designer Preview will be Friday, October 1 at 9 a.m. and the Red Diamond Lecture Series will take place on Friday, October 1 with DeJuan Stroud taking the stage at 10:30 a.m. and an afternoon lecture from Miles Redd at 1 p.m. Proceeds from Antiques at The Gardens benefit the educational mission of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, which includes programs like Discovery Field Trips, Horticultural Therapy and family classes. During the last 4 years of this antiques show, more than 38,000 children in the greater Birmingham area have reaped the benefits of free, curriculum-based field trips to The Gardens. Mid-South Native Plant Conference - Dixon Gallery and Gardens
With the theme "Natives and Beyond: Sustainable Plants, Gardens and Communities" the conference brings a world-class roster of nationally acclaimed horticulturalists, botanists, and other environmental experts to Memphis. The conference is hosted by Dixon Gallery and Gardens, 4339 Park Ave., Memphis, TN.

The purpose of the 2010 native plant conference is to promote awareness of the use of plant choices, horticultural practices and garden designs that work with nature and have a positive environmental impact. Attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in sessions with world-class speakers who will provide the tools necessary for safe and ecological gardening to increase their own sustainability.

An optional guided field trip through Overton Park's Old Forest and private garden tours will be offered on Sunday, October 10. Cost is $100 with registration prior to September 1, 2010 and $125 after includes light evening refreshments, continental breakfast, box lunch and on-site vendor access. http://www.dixon.org
